Specialising in traditional scripts, de Havilland Memories are award winning calligraphy artisans

All of our letterpress printing is carried out inhouse on our beautiful, vintage Heidelberg Platen printing press, Penelope, in our workshop in East Grinstead, West Sussex. Our engineering background means that we appreciate all of the finer, mechanical movements of Penelope and love the maintenance side, as well as the printing side of having a machine from 1960. We understand that we only have one planet and therefore strive to be as ecologically-friendly as possible by using only the finest, sustainably sourced materials for our projects. This ranges from bamboo paper to unbleached or handmade, cotton rag paper, and also using as many small, local suppliers as possible to reduce our carbon emissions, and using natural, hand-dying techniques for coloured items, such as ribbons. The artist behind de Havilland Memories looking at her artwork

Florrie de Havilland

Owner and creator of de Havilland Memories
de Havilland Memories is led by Florrie de Havilland, the artist, designer and calligrapher behind the company. Florrie is English and Icelandic, and particularly proud of her Icelandic heritage. Having spent almost 8 years living in Germany with her German husband, Gerrit, and working as an engineer in the space sector, we’re now back in England and Florrie is working full-time as an artist for de Havilland Memories. In our house, we like to celebrate all the wins in life, no matter how big or small, and with two cats and two geckos, this means a lot of fun and celebrations to be had all year round. We’re looking forward to working with you and welcoming you as the newest members of the de Havilland Memories Family.

About the Company

The name de Havilland Memories is derived from Florrie’s mother’s maiden name, de Havilland. The de Havilland family is well known in many different fields, perhaps the two most renowned de Havillands are Olivia de Havilland, a famous actress who sadly passed away in 2020 and was best known for her role in Gone with the Wind, and Sir Geoffrey de Havilland, an aerospace engineer who created aircraft such as the de Havilland Mosquito and de Havilland Comet. Apple blossom is used to represent Florrie’s other grandparents, who owned an 8-acre apple orchard in Kent. Enjoying many weekends growing up and playing amongst the trees, the use of the apple blossom ties both sides of her family together in a way to remember each of her grandparents.

Kind Words

Incredible!! So so happy with our invitations! They are everything we wanted and more. Florrie was great from the start, really attentive and knowledgeable, gave lots of advice and was super helpful regarding what would look best as well as being amenable to any alterations or last minute changes. A true expert! The invites are really really special, something that we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives.

We are so happy with the bespoke wedding stationery Florrie created for us. She took the time to understand what styles we liked and talked us through the different types of paper. Her passion for wedding stationary is evident and we felt completely at ease. The end result was exactly, if not more than, what we imagined and really brought together the theme for our wedding!
We would recommend Florrie to anyone who is looking for a really personal touch to your wedding - that stationery is what becomes a memento and something which we will always associate with our day.

Florrie was amazing throughout the planning of our wedding. She guided me through the process, listening to my vague and crazy ideas and somehow creating something beautiful and perfect out of it! Couldn’t recommend her more, she will make the whole process stress free and add to the excitement of your big day!
